Guest Form - Live Show
Here is everything you need to know to be on the show. Please fill in the survey below. If have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Time: We ask that you join us at 8:45pm - East Coast time, USA - so that we can make sure to establish a solid connection with you before the show begins. That way we aren't trying to resolve any connection issues while people are watching.
Medium: While there are many browsers and devices, not all are equal in Hangout's eyes. I STRONGLY suggest you test whichever you intend to use prior to your appearance if you’ve never done a Hangout on your setup before don't remember how to, please click HERE.
Browser: Since they changed the API, Chrome is the only reliable browser that works every time. Firefox may work but you need the latest version and even that is iffy. Explorer and Safari may work but it takes some tweaking. Please resolve this prior to your appearance if you must use either of these. Edge does not work as far as I have seen.
Smart Phones and Tablets: We don't prefer you use a smart device but they do work. You'll need to download the Hangouts App. Please try to make sure you have a strong wifi signal, use the screen in landscape mode (wide, not tall), use headphones/earbuds, and use a stand or prop it up. Please don’t hold it in your hand, otherwise our viewers will get seasick.
Requirements: This is a video show. You will need to have a camera and a microphone and if you can please use headphones as it reduces echo. The more light you have in the room, the better you show up and the greater your video quality will be.
Hook in via LAN rather than WiFi if you can. WiFi is doable but is often sketchy. We may need to turn down your bandwidth.
If there are two of you, contact me ASAP, there's some technical stuff we need to discuss.
Intro Segment: Pete will do an opening intro. When he announces your name, please say hi so the people will know who you are. He will read your bio.
Interview (30-45 min): This is where we talk about you and your work. We usually start the show out with a topic similar to your work, life, or interests and then blend in your work. It makes the show more of a conversation than a interview which makes you more relateable and endears you more to the audience.
Game (15 min): We'll play one of our games with you. There are several different ones and we'll pick the best one for you and we often tailor the game for our guest. The survey often dictates the game and the content.
End Credits: At the end of the show we will give you the opportunity to plug away with all of your promotional links and/or announcements. I'll have these from your survey and will announce them but feel free to chime in with more or add details.
If you want to share any files or images with us that will make your interview better, please feel free to send them to firstname.lastname@example.org before the day of your appearance.
Sidebar Images: We use a sidebar to display images while we talk. This is set to a 4 high x 3 wide ratio. This usually cycles throughout the show while we talk. If you want images in there please send us up to six. If they are at least close to 4 high x 3 wide, I'll edit/crop them to the right size.
Main Display Images: We can also display images in the main window if you have something big you'd like to specifically show off and talk to. This space is landscape and set to 1280x720 or 16:9. Again, if you get it close, I'll make it work.
Files: If you have a game or an ebook you'd like to share with us, we'll go through it so we can talk to the product better.
Video/Audio: We can show off video and play audio but this can't be anything that's being sold anywhere or on YouTube. I have to do this because of YouTube's blanket algorithm. If they detect a copyright infringement, even if it's yours, we could get shut down during the show and get a copyright ding. However, we can tack it on to our podcast if you'd like. We've done that for a few shows.
This form will serve as an opportunity for us to collect the most important information about you, the guest, and how we can best include this information throughout the show.
